Choose Your Attitude was born of necessity. After losing his mom to cancer and then his wife to CF, Nicholas Strand kept pushing through. Until Bell’s Palsy stopped him in his tracks. The pause was long enough for Nicholas to take in the wake-up call during a five-week break.
Taking a moment to go within and think, he realized that life was short. This was the time to choose what to do with his time left.
And that's when the writing started. He put paper to pen and found healing in writing – from sunup to sundown. All of the grief and frustration flowed through that pen and onto the paper.
Nicholas filled up pages with his late wife Brianna's story, resulting in the touching book Loving Someone Who Is Dying. As he penned the book, he often glanced down at the "Choose Your Attitude, create Your Life" tattoo on his wrist. Brianna's words inspired these words.
And he did just that. Nicholas found power in the thought of choosing how to feel, react, and act. And Brianna's story had power.
It was essential to spread her story beyond their circle and share her optimism, purpose, empowerment, and choice. It was time to create a legacy and inspire others in ways she would likely have never dreamed possible. With an inspiring book in hand on a topic that many hope never to face, Nicholas knew he needed to create another avenue for the message to reach those who needed it most. And that is how the Choose Your Attitude apparel line was born, and quickly it proved powerful.
Through the evolution of Choose Your Attitude, a premium encouragement brand, we have inspired and empowered others to realize that attitude is a choice within grasp despite the challenges that lie ahead. And, in the thick of a global pandemic, the world needed this message more than we could have predicted. In fact, Nicholas needed it, too, as unforeseen challenges significantly impacted the music industry in which he worked.
Choose Your Attitude has been a beacon of hope during tough times. It's a reminder of what is possible when everything else feels impossible. And it's been a source of community, rallying people who know the power of one's perspective (and attitude) and championing others to be inspired by it as well.
